![]() ![]() In order to further promote collaborations across operations, Toyota Tsusho made an additional investment and made Carpaydiem a subsidiary.Ĭarpaydiem has been expanding the online business, in which Japanese used cars are exported overseas and sold to more than 100 countries around the world, mainly countries in Africa. Toyota Tsusho and Carpaydiem entered into a capital and business alliance in 2020 with the aim of collaborating in the online export and sales of used cars. (hereafter, "Carpaydiem") in February 2023. The only time I've seen it work for someone completely overseas is when they get an export dealer to buy a car from an individual seller on their behalf, but then your only saving a tiny bit of money yet you get all the risks of buying a car from a private party.Toyota Tsusho Corporation ("Toyota Tsusho") acquired additional shares of Carpaydiem Co., Ltd. I've seen lots of people try to do what you want to do but not have any boots on the ground or otherwise have no idea of the paperwork involved and it never ever works out. You better be just as knowledgeable in the Japanese car registration (and in your case export) system and be in Japan in person (or have a trusted friend in Japan) to pick up the car and do all the paperwork. Two easiest places to find them are on Mercari and Yahoo Auctions. You won't find a random mom selling her sons old 86 now that he moved across the country or something, but you will find enthusiasts, mechanics and other people knowledgeable about the car registration system in Japan selling cars in person. It's just because of the paperwork involved, typically only enthusiasts and similar do so. On a side note you have to be very knowledgeable about your market, I don’t know how it is in Australia but in some places it is oversaturated (Germany, Poland, France, etc)Ĭontrary to what people are telling you, people do sell used cars by themselves all the time. The quality required is rarer, more expensive and the target country customs won’t accept a bribe.įrom my experience, Australia and New Zealand are super strict so they are very few importers. Absolutely nobody accept the place a bid without a deposit from the client.įor western country it’s a lot more harder to bait and switch. If you have not paid they will ask for a deposit for doing the bidding. If you have already paid, they will source the car on auction according to what you paid. This trick works when you export to a 3rd world country where people want super old/bad shape stuff for the lowest price possible. They never had the car in the first place, they might had it in the past but not anymore.įrom that moment they will explain about auctions and everything. Worst case scenario you have already sent the money, if they’re “honest” it’s done right before payment but it’s rare. They display “available” on their website, they will provide sheets translations, photos, negociate and at some point they will tell you it was sold the day before, an issue arisen and it can’t be sold, etc. One of the tricks used by these car dealers is they don’t have stock. You will say, “well then let’s find a spotless vehicle”. Australia custom is really strict and exporter do not want to take any risks. If it the vehicle doesn’t pass, it must be destroyed/shipped back/repaired. In some countries you can pass theses tests several times and with luck the vehicle importation is green lighted. ![]() The problem with very old vehicle is they might not pass the custom tests, because of a rusty or bent chassis for instance. /r/TokyoMusicians - for musicians in Tokyo./r/LearnJapanese - learn to speak moon language./r/MovingToJapan - Support for wannabe expats./r/JapanTravel - For visitors going to Japan. ![]() /r/JapanLife - For people living in Japan. If you want to have a meetup posted here, message the mods first.
